Frequently Asked Questions
What types of training and behaviour issues do you work with?
I can help with a wide range of behaviours - from basic training and puppy foundations, to more complex issues such as reactivity, fear, anxiety, and overexcitement. Each case is approached individually, using force-free, positive methods tailored to you and your dog.
Do you only work with dogs?
At the moment, yes! However, I’m also studying broader animal behaviour and plan to expand my services in the future.
Do you offer online sessions?
Yes! Online consultations are a great option for clients who live further away, or for dogs who find visitors or new environments stressful.
Do you travel to clients?
I’m based in Olney, Buckinghamshire, and offer in-person sessions in surrounding areas. If you’re outside this range, online sessions may be a perfect alternative.
What happens in a consultation?
A consultation is our first step - we’ll talk about your dog’s history, daily routine, behaviour, and then start building a tailored plan together. It’s relaxed, supportive, and always at your dog’s pace.
Training Approach
What training methods do you use?
I only use positive reinforcement (R+) and science-based, force-free methods. That means no punishment, fear, or intimidation - just kind, ethical training that builds trust and understanding.
Do you use aversive tools or corrective techniques?
Never. Tools like prong collars, choke chains, or e-collars can cause pain and fear, and often make behaviour worse. I focus on creating behaviour change through understanding and positive motivation.
How long will it take to see results?
Every dog is different. Some behaviours improve quickly, while others - especially fear or anxiety - take time. My goal is to support you with practical strategies and realistic progress every step of the way.
Pricing and Booking
How much do your sessions cost?
Prices depend on the type of service - please get in touch for a price list!
How do I book a session?
Simply fill out my contact form or email me directly, and I’ll get back to you to arrange a free quick phone call to discuss your needs.
Practical Questions
Do I need to be present during training?
Yes - training works best when you’re involved! I’ll show you each technique so you can keep practising confidently at home. I also offer solo training walks for some dogs - great for building skills or confidence one-to-one. This option isn’t right for every dog, but we can chat about it during your consultation.
What should I bring to a session?
Just your dog’s regular lead and harness, plenty of tasty treats, and an open mind! If we’re working on specific issues, I’ll let you know in advance if anything else is helpful.
What if my dog is reactive or nervous?
That’s absolutely fine - this is what I specialise in. I’ll make sure our sessions are calm and supportive, and we’ll work at your dog’s comfort level.
What if my dog is unwell before our session?
Please let me know as soon as possible. If your dog has been vomiting, had diarrhoea or seems unwell within the last 24 hours, sessions will need to be rescheduled to protect everyone’s health and welfare.
Policies & Conditions
What if it’s too hot or too cold for a session?
Your dog’s safety comes first. Outdoor sessions will be rescheduled if temperatures exceed 25°C (or 22°C for at-risk breeds). We can always move to an indoor or online alternative.
Do you have insurance?
Yes - I’m fully insured for both public liability and professional indemnity.
Can I contact you between sessions?
Of course! I offer follow-up support for clients via email or WhatsApp to help with questions or small challenges as they come up.
